Soak Away / Drainage Field

Soak Away / Drainage Field

A drainage field or soak-away system is a vital component that aids in the efficient and effective draining of effluent from your septic tank or sewage treatment plant.

It mainly comprises of pipes fitted with slots or holes that are buried in trenches covered with 20mm-50mm stones. However, it is crucial to note that there are several regulations and guidelines to follow when setting up a drainage field. For instance, the drainage field must be located at a minimum distance of 10m from any watercourse or permeable drain and 15m away from any building.

Additionally, it must also be situated at least 50m away from any groundwater supply.

Maintenance is also necessary, and regular checks to look out for standing water, grass or vegetation dyeing, and strong smells are imperative in ensuring the drainage field continues to operate optimally. Regular maintenance and emptying of your drainage system are highly recommended to ensure that it continues to function flawlessly.
